Business is booming in Markham, Ontario! The city of over 338,000 on the north east edge of Toronto is home to 10,400 companies, including over 400 Canadian head offices.
Technology and life sciences are the two main industries here, which provide thousands of jobs to area residents.
Some of the large corporations include IBM, Aviva Insurance, AMD, Bank of China, GE Digital Energy, Honeywell, Huawei Technologies, Lenovo, Johnson & Johnson, Toshiba, Honda and Hyundai.
There are plenty of small businesses in Markham as well. Our small business network include hundreds of Markham based Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, Insurance Brokers, Digital marketing companies, health practioners and more.
With such a large employee and business base, Markham is a great place to set up shop whether you are a business with a physical store or a virtual one.
We don’t have any in-person Markham business networking events planned at this time, but, you are welcome to join our virtual networking events and our in-person Toronto business networking events.
Referral networking is a great way to build your business. You get to know people, they like you and trust that you would do a good job for their contacts, so they send you referrals.
Members of GTApreneurs current Exclusive Business Coaching and Referral Networking Groups do very well with giving and receiving referrals. We don’t have a Markham-specific group right now, but, we have members of our other groups who live in Markham and other York region cities.

GTApreneurs had it’s first A New Way to Network entrepreneur networking event in Markham in November 2019 at the Village Hive in Markham, Ontario. We had another there in December 2019 and another in January 2020.
The Village Hive is owned by Charlotte Kirby and offers space for drop-in coworking and events, as well as dedicated desks, a boardroom and private offices. They are conveniently located north-east of Highway 7 and Markham Rd, with a free parking lot and plenty of free street parking.
They offer a kitchen for storing your lunch in the fridge, a stove, coffee maker, microwave and kettle so you can eat and drink what you want. They always have fresh coffee on so you don’t need to bring your own. If you’d like to go out for lunch, there are many restaurants and pubs along Main Street Markham, a short walk away.
The Village Hive aims to offer a community experience to its members, not just space to sit and work in.
I was happy to co-work and hold events in their space when I was living in the area. Here are some pictures from our events:
